The Guidance to Success Program
In Partnership with the City of Jacksonville, the Guidance to Success Program provides comprehensive youth and parent-centered case management, life skills development, and academic support for students facing known risk factors or needing extra support. Our approach focuses on school engagement and parent involvement as the primary means by which to develop healthy, motivated, productive students.
This program is offered for students attending school in Duval County. Factors that will be addressed are:
o Poor academic performance (failing grades or at-risk of not promoting or graduating)
o Truancy (inconsistent school attendance)
o Excessive conduct violations (at risk of alternative school assignment or expelled)
o Prior arrest, civil citation, or probation status
o Family issues negatively impacting the failure to thrive
o Mental Health such as anxiety, depression, self esteem
Program Services
Case Management: This is the core component of the program. It includes the coordination of community-based services for youth and families who require additional knowledge and support to address specific, unique needs. Our holistic approach addresses all life components including mental and physical health, family stability, leisure and recreation. The case manager will work with other organizations to ensure the family needs are met.
Academic Support: The Organization will be the liaison with the schools in an effort to place emphasis on education as the key to avoidance of criminal behavior. We will act as an advocate, working closely with youth, parents, and school personnel to ensure that students are enrolled in the most appropriate course of study. Tutoring services will be coordinated.
Life Skills Instruction/Coaching: To promote life skills, students will create and establish short and long term goals. The program offers life skills instructions in the areas of life after school, financial management, personal appearance/hygiene, leisure activities, community resources, health and fitness, etiquette/character building, mentoring, and self esteem. Students will have an opportunity to earn community service hours, attend group field trips and events.
Parent Education: In the effort to equip parents with the tools and resources to help their struggling youth, the program offers parent workshops to teach evidence-based practices for motivating youth and promoting positive behaviors.
